SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Saratoga Springs Police Department has made an arrest in a reported hit-and-run that happened late January in the city.
Officers responded to Saratoga Hospital on January 31st around 5 a.m. for the report of a woman who said she had been hit with a car in the Spring Street parking garage. With minimal evidence available and no witnesses in the area at the time, police began an investigation into the report.
Police say they found the victim had left a nearby Caroline Street bar and was waiting for friends in the parking garage, when a car driven by 30-year-old Paul Natale, of Gansevoort, backed up into the victim, knocking her down and running her over. Police say Natale did not stop to check on the victim and did not alert police to help.
The victim was able to get herself in her car and drive to Saratoga Hospital, where she remained for five days recovering.
In an unrelated call the same night, police responded to an accident on Excelsior Spring Avenue where they discovered Natale's vehicle smashed into a tree. The passenger in the vehicle was injured. Police say Natale appeared highly intoxicated and was arrested for DWI.
The investigation shows that after Natale struck the victim in the parking garage, he drove away from the scene and crashed his car about one-mile away.
In addition to DWI, he was arrested Monday and has been charged with Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident.
