ALBANY, N.Y. – Local federal employees and members of the National Treasury Employees Union will gather in Albany Tuesday to oppose deep spending cuts required under sequestration.
The "Stop the Sequester" rally aims to draw attention to the more than 150 local IRS employees facing furloughs of up to seven days, as well as other federal employees facing budget cuts and potential furloughs.
According to the NTEU, with the IRS already under severe funding reductions, critical services provided to the American public will diminish.
The IRS must enact cuts to their budgets through the end of September, and the NTEU says that the agency's ability to answer questions and deliver refunds will be seriously impaired should sequestration continue.
The rally will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Leo W. O'Brien Federal Building located at 1 Clinton Square in Albany.
