Trial begins for suspect in Schenectady fatal hit and run

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The trial for a Schenectady man accused of killing a 19-year-old girl in a 2012 hit and run accident begins Monday.

According to authorities, 19-year-old Cassandra Boone was crossing Erie Boulevard when she was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound. She sustained head and chest injuries and was treated at the scene by the Schenectady Fire Department and was transported by a Mohawk Ambulance to Albany Medical Center in serious condition. Once at AMC, Boone was taken to emergency surgery and later died.

Schenectady police received a tip and located the driver, 34-year-old Anthony Gallo.

Gallo is charged with seven counts, including Aggravated Vehicular Manslaughter, Driving Under the Influence of Drugs with a suspended license, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
