SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - James Wells has been found guilty of all charges in the murder of 15-year-old Eddie Stanley in Schenectady County Court on Friday afternoon.
After more than four days of deliberations the jury found the 33-year-old Brooklyn man guilty of second-degree murder for Stanley's June 2011 shooting death. He was also found guilty of four counts of Weapons Possession, three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Reckless Endangerment, Unlawful Imprisonment and tampering with evidence.
Stanley, a Schenectady High School basketball star, was killed on June 12, 2011 during a house party at 730 Bridge Street in Schenectady that both Stanley and Wells were attending. Wells was arrested in Brooklyn one month later.
An indictment against Wells stated that a disagreement sparked a shootout during the party during which Stanley was shot five times.
The indictment stays Wells and several other men were accusing people at the party of stealing car keys which they had misplaced. Wells threatened to strip search the party-goers, and when Stanley objected to his friend being ordered to strip, Wells pulled out a handgun and fired "multiple shots at close range within the crowded interior stairwell, endangering the lives of young guests other than his intended target Eddie Stanley."
Wells faces 25 years to life when sentenced.
