UAlbany men's basketball leaves town to take on Duke

ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany Great Danes men's basketball team is heading south to Philadelphia to take on Duke in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The 15th seeded team left the UAlbany campus around 1 p.m. Wednesday to face off against the 2nd seeded team Duke at 12:15 p.m. on Friday.

Mike Black scored 14 points and Albany came back from an early deficit to beat Vermont 53-49 in the America East championship game on Saturday and earn its third trip to the NCAA tournament at the Division 1 level.

"We have to be tough mentally and physically, but their offense is really what worries me because of how efficient they are and they can score from all five positions," said Head Coach Will Brown.

"I'm confident in my game. I think I can compete with anybody in the country, so it'll be a good challenge for me and I'm ready for it," UAlbany Guard Mike Black said.

The UAlbany Lady Danes will be headed to Newark, Delaware as a 14th seed and will face the 3rd seeded University of North Carolina. The game will be played at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

NEWS10 Sports will traveling with both team, with live reports from both games.
