SAND LAKE, N.Y. - The Town of Sand Lake Animal Control Officer and New York State Police are asking for the public's help in finding the person responsible for tossing an emaciated deceased Pit Bull puppy onto the side of the road.
Animal Control Officer Catherine Crawmer tells NEWS10 she received a call from a person who told her they discovered the dog on Parker Road near Old Best Road on March 14th.
Crawmer says the dog was found in an area where trash is often dumped in the town.
"The dog was in terrible shape. Really just skin stretched over bones," Crawmer said.
The puppy is described as being a white and tan female which appears to have been around 6 months old before it died.
New York State Police say they are hunting down a few leads and conducting interviews. They are asking for anyone who knows anything about the dog or the dog's former owner(s) to give them a call.
Crawmer says, "Anyone that knows the dog or has seen a dog of that description in horrible condition. It's not something that happened in a day. This is something that took a period of months to get in that condition."
The State Police 24-hour hotline is 477-9333.
