SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Saratoga Springs Mayor Scott Johnson has declared March 10th as 'Saratoga Hockey Day' on Wednesday, after the Blue Streaks varsity hockey team took home the state championship title on that date this year.
The last time the hockey team won the state championship was in 1999, and that event also occurred on March 10th.
The mayor read the proclamation at City Hall on Wednesday afternoon following a parade for the hockey team from the high school with the hockey team, coaches and managers aboard a CDTA trolley.
The proclamation of 'Saratoga Hockey Day' honors both teams, according to hockey coach Dave Torres. Assistant coaches are Tim Grande and Josh Knight.
The team's celebration continues during a banquet Wednesday night where Jeff Sova, coach of the 1999 team, will be the guest speaker.
