Missing girl found, man questioned

EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. -- A 14-year-old Brunswick girl who had been reported missing a week ago was located and taken into protective custody early Friday morning.

Acting on information which was based on a widely distributed Missing Person Poster, police were on the lookout for a white Ford Focus with New York plates, as being involved in her disappearance since March 7th.

At 1 a.m. on Friday, Officer Michael Herrington's police radar clocked a speeding white vehicle on Luther Road doing 60 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. In addition, the speeding vehicle was similar to the white Ford Focus wanted in connection with the missing person.

Officer Herrington stopped the vehicle in the vicinity of SEFCU on Rte. 4. As he approached the violator, the officer observed a female passenger, who upon further investigation he identified as the missing person.

The 14-year old said that she had run away from home and did not want to go back. Officer Herrington took her into protective custody as a Juvenile In Need of Supervision. She was turned over to her parents who responded from their Brunswick home to the traffic stop location.

The 20-year-old man operating the white Ford Focus was ticketed for speeding and turned over to Brunswick Troopers who are investigating his role in her disappearance.
