ALBANY, N.Y. – Senator Charles Schumer will join Albany officials Monday to announce a new initiative which will "provide a major boost in fire and emergency response efforts in the Capital Region."
Schumer along with members of the Albany and Rensselaer Fire Departments and Albany port officials will reveal an addition to the Albany Fire Department's
emergency response efforts: a new, federally funded, 30-foot fireboat for the
Port of Albany.
Schumer will provide details and capabilities of this state-of-the-art vehicle during an unveiling on Monday morning. The rescue boat is equipped with a high-powered hose for firefighting, equipment for handling
medical emergencies, and the ability to rescue up to 14 people.
Schumer says this fireboat means a major boost in fire and emergency response
efforts in the Port, in communities on both sides of the river, and throughout
the Capital Region. He also says that the new fireboat will improve
safety in the high-traffic Port of Albany, both for recreational and commercial
users, and will better address environmental concerns, like spillage of
petroleum.
Schumer will be joined by Mayor Jerry Jennings, Albany Fire Chief Robert Forezzi, and Port Director Richard Hendrick.
The event will be held at the Port of Albany at 11 a.m.
