SELKIRK, N.Y. – A 59-year-old Selkirk man is under arrest
after police say he violated an order of protection and struck a child.
Bethlehem Police Department arrested Carl J. Hilgers, 59, of
22 Skyridge Lane, Selkirk, following a complaint Thursday that he struck his
3-year-old child in the face. The
investigation revealed he became upset with the child and slapped the child in
the face leaving redness and fingerprint markings. His actions violated an order of protection
which was in effect for the child's safety.
Hilgers was arrested without incident and charged with felony
Criminal Contempt in the 1st-Degree, misdemeanor Endangering the
Welfare of a Child, and Harassment in the 2nd-Degree.
He was arraigned in Bethlehem Town Court and remanded to the
Albany County Correctional Facility. Hilgers is scheduled to appear in
Bethlehem Town Court on March 19, 2013 at 4 p.m. for a preliminary
hearing.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are
pending.
