ALBANY, N.Y. -- Budget negotiations continue at the
Capitol and the governor and legislative leaders say they're optimistic a deal
will be reached by the deadline they promised -- March 21st.
The governor and legislative leaders met three times Thursday
working on specifics, but declined to say what specifically could be holding
things up. All have said it's a tough economic time, which makes things that
much more difficult.
One of the more contentious issues is raising the minimum
wage. Cuomo included it in his budget; the Assembly passed it last week, but the
senate is more divided with Republicans expressing concern.
The governor says he'll meet with legislative leaders Friday
in New York City and will provide updates.
The budget is due by the April 1
start of the fiscal year.
