ALBANY, N.Y. - The Charles Freihofer Baking Company celebrated its 100th birthday Tuesday by kicking off a year-long anniversary campaign.
In honor of the celebration, Albany's mayor Gerald Jennings unveiled the honorary Freihofer Way street sign on Prospect Avenue, home of Freihofer's Bread Bakery.
Mayor Jennings says the company has been an integral part of the community since they opened in 1913 and gives them credit for staying in the Capital Region all these years.
Freihofer's anniversary campaign "the more you get, the more we give" will give away 1,000 loaves of bread at about 20 events between now and the end of the year and will match the giveaways with donations to food banks.
