Police looking for suspect in bus bomb threats

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - State police in Rhode Island and Massachusetts are trying to find a person who copied the movie "Speed" and reported that bombs aboard two Peter Pan buses would explode if their speeds fell below 50 mph. The threats turned out to be hoaxes.

Authorities say the threats were phoned in to a Peter Pan call center Saturday morning and involved two buses that left Providence. Rhode Island State Police stopped 1 of the buses in Exeter, R.I., while Massachusetts troopers stopped the other in Chicopee. No explosives were found.

Police say it's not clear whether the prankster used a recording from the movie to make the threat.

Officials say the caller and anyone else involved would face criminal charges and possibly have to pay the cost of the police response.
