CHATHAM, N.Y. – A 30-year-old man is under arrest after police say he set a fire at a home on Jones Avenue in the Village of Chatham.
At 8 a.m. Sunday the Chatham Fire Department along with Ghent FD, Valatie FD and Red Rock FD were dispatched to a reported house fire in the Village of Chatham. The fire was called in by a neighbor, but quickly extinguished by neighbors and first responders.
Due to its suspicious nature, The Chatham Fire Department and Columbia County Fire Coordinator's Office requested the assistance of the New York State Police at the scene.
NYS troopers from Livingston and the Livingston Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene.
The investigation led to the arrest of Willy Timperio, 30, of Catskill for felony Arson in the 2nd-Degree.
The defendant was arraigned in the Town of Livingston Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail with no bail.
