BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (AP) - Prosecutors say a man who
shot cellphone video of his speedometer showing 140 mph just before
crashing on an upstate New York highway has pleaded guilty to injuring
his passengers.
Saratoga County District Attorney James A. Murphy
III says 27-year-old Anton Hawkins of Schenectady pleaded guilty
Thursday to second-degree vehicular assault as part of a plea bargain
that dropped drunken driving, reckless endangerment and other charges.
Hawkins was on the Northway in Halfmoon on Nov. 24
when he spun out of control and his Toyota Camry flipped onto its roof,
throwing one passenger out of the car. That person suffered serious
injuries and two other passengers were also hurt.
Hawkins is expected to be sentenced on May 2 to three years in prison.
