ALBANY, N.Y. - March 8th marks the 102nd International Women's Day, a day celebrated by millions of women at thousands of events around the globe. The 2nd annual New York event on Friday will celebrate the extraordinary accomplishments of women, and specifically acknowledges New York's women veterans.
The NY Celebrates Women event brings attention to the uniquely traumatic issues women veterans face upon returning home.
The event is held from 12-2 p.m. at the NY State Museum in Albany, featuring a Celebrate Women Reception and "Unseen America" Photographic Exhibit by Homeless Women Veterans.
Proceeds benefit Wiawaka, the oldest retreat for women in the nation, providing respite for women since 1903, and its immediate need for restoration of the Wakonda Lodge, an original Adirondack lodge and Lake George waterfront landmark. The restoration is underway and the goal of raising $300,000 is nearly met, just in time for this year's women veterans retreat
For more information about NY Celebrates Women and to register go to: www.nycelebrateswomen.com. Suggested donation is $25-$100. For each $100 donation, one additional woman veteran will attend the event at no charge.
