Update: Suspicious activity near Shaker Junior High School unfounded

UPDATE (4:00 p.m. Thursday): The Colonie Police have informed North Colonie that it has been determined that the individuals in the white vehicle that approached a Shaker Junior High School student on Tuesday afternoon were in fact neighbors of the student, merely being friendly and offering a ride home. Police determined that there was no ill intent by the individuals involved and that they consider this matter closed.


 

COLONIE, N.Y. - The North Colonie Central School District is warning parents of an incident that occurred in the Meadowbrook Road area in Watervliet in the Latham Ridge zone on Tuesday, March 5th.

Two individuals in a white vehicle stopped alongside a Shaker Junior High School student and asked if the student wanted a ride home.

Shaker Junior High School officials contacted the Colonie Police and a report was taken. Colonie Police informed Shaker Junior High School officials that they will be providing an increased police presence in the Meadowbrook Road area.

Be assured that the Colonie Police are taking this matter seriously. Please advise your children to be extra vigilant regarding their surroundings. Also, reinforce with your children safety procedures regarding talking with strangers and getting in vehicles with them.
