QUEENSBURY, N.Y.--The Hoosic Valley Lady Indians coasted to their big win over opponent Canton of Section X in a New York State Class C girls' basketball regional semifinal round game at Adirondack Community College on Tuesday night. Led by senior guard Cassidy Chapko, the defending state champions began their journey to regaining that title with a blowout 44-25 victory.
To that end, Chapko scored 22 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, nabbed seven steals and passed off four assists.
Hoosic Valley (20-3) came out overeager at the start, causing them to over extend their defensive and give up easy looks. Once they settled down, they managed to take control of the game by the end of the first quarter, achieving a 15-11 lead that Canton (19-3) would never again narrow in on. Hoosic Valley went on to outscore Canton 11-2 in the second, for a solid 26-13 advantage heading into the half.
The Lady Indians will now travel to SUNY Plattsburgh, where they face AuSable Valley of Section VII in the regional finals at 12 pm. on Saturday.
