SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Saratoga Springs Police say a man in custody made threats to a Skidmore College student Tuesday saying he would "shoot her and then kill himself."
The Police Department says the suspect was apprehended Wednesday morning, and is now in the custody of Police in Atlantic City, NJ.
The suspect was sought after Tuesday when he threatened to harm a Skidmore College student and then himself, the college announced Wednesday morning.
The college remained in lock down until early Wednesday morning, according to the school's Campus Safety Department as a precaution.
As of 11 p.m. Tuesday evening, all persons and vehicles attempting to enter the Skidmore property were being stopped from entering, with the exception of students with valid identification.
A heavy police presence remained on campus throughout the evening.
Saratoga Springs Police believed that 49-year-old Lance C. Leonard, of Cuttyhunk, Massachusetts, is out of the Saratoga Springs area and may be travelling outside the state, in the New Jersey area. Leonard is described as a white male, 49 years of age, 6'1", thin build and balding.
Police are currently in the process of obtaining an arrest warrant for the suspect and continue to work with authorities in Massachusetts as well as other locations for assistance in locating Leonard.
Leonard made no mention of a specific weapon in his threat, but police still say he should not be approached and should be considered potentially dangerous.
Anyone with information as to his whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Saratoga Springs Police Department at (518) 584-1800 or their local law enforcement agency.
