ALBANY, N.Y. - The New York State Troopers PBA with assistance from COP SHOT, Inc. is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual who stabbed a State Trooper on Sunday at the Empire State Plaza.
Eric Green, 18, is wanted for questioning in connection to the stabbing of Trooper Rodney Smith in the neck with a steak knife at about 3:15 p.m. Sunday on the Plaza's concourse level.
Green is said to be homeless with known ties to city's Grand St. area.
"We have no indication as to a motive or anything as far as why the incident occurred," Trooper Mark Cepiel, a New York State Police spokesman, said.
Smith attempted to check the man's identification when the suspect allegedly pulled out a steak knife and stabbed Smith on the left side of his neck, police said. The suspect then grabbed Smith's portable radio before fleeing the building on foot.
Smith, a 15-year veteran of the force, used a cell phone to call for help, State Police said. He was rushed to Albany Medical Center where he underwent surgery. He was expected to make a full recovery.
