COLONIE, N.Y. – According to police, a pedestrian was killed when he was struck by a U.S. Postal Service truck, and the truck driver was attacked by an unknown assailant when he got out to check on the victim.
Colonie police say the man was in the road on Central Avenue in Colonie when he was struck by the 18-wheeler at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
As the driver got out of his truck to check on the victim, 28-year-old William A. Jennings of Schenectady, he then too became a victim.
"After he got out of the vehicle to check on the victim he was subsequently assaulted by unknown subjects in the roadway," said Lt. Ken Pero of Colonie PD.
Police say they still don't know if the driver was attacked by just one person or more. The driver was then taken to Albany Medical Center, but has since been released.
Police say the driver of the tractor trailer will not face charges, and that toxicology reports will be done on the victim.
