COBLESKILL, N.Y. – A 42-year-old man and 52-year-old woman
are under arrest after State police caught them in the act during a burglary
on Potter Mountain Road in Gilboa Friday morning.
As two troopers approached, the two subjects attempted to
drive away. When troopers stopped the
vehicle, they observed a large tool box in the rear seat and footprints in the
snow leading to a Potter Mountain Road residence.
State police arrested William A. Person, 41, of Reed Street,
Northville, and Wendy J. Ryan, 52, of Huntersland Road, Middleburgh for
Burglary in the 2nd-Degree and Criminal Mischief in the 2nd-Degree,
both felonies.
According to police, Person and Ryan had entered the home
and removed a flat screen TV, DVD player, and tool box, and then entered a
crawl space and removed the copper pipes -- destroying the heating system.
State police executed a search warrant on Ryan's 1999 Mercury
and discovered the copper in the trunk. A sign on the door of the vehicle advertised, "Free Salvage
Removal."
Person was arraigned in the Town of Cobleskill and remanded
to the Schoharie County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash and $10,000 bond, Ryan was
released on her own recognizance.
State police are working with the Schoharie County District
Attorney's Office and additional arrests are anticipated.
