Patricia Wesner and State Trooper pose after gathering the spilled money.
Brink's, Inc. announced Wednesday they will reward $2,500 to thank the Washington County woman who returned more than $11,000 in cash and coins after it fell out of a company truck in Salem on Tuesday morning.
The company says the $2,500 contribution will go directly to the Good Samaritan, Patricia Wesner, for her quick thinking and kindness.
The cash and coins were ejected when a rear door of the truck opened unexpectedly along Route 22. Wesner then gathered up the spilled money - 11,000 one dollar bills and $50 in pennies - and contacted police.
"It was an amazing act of civic virtue demonstrated by Ms. Wesner to call local police, collect the scattered money and return it to us," said Mel Parker, President, Brink's North America.
Wesner, a mother of four, works as the Director of the Pember Museum of Natural History in Granville.
Brink's, a provider of transportation and cash management services, says they are investigating why the spill occurred.
