ALBANY, N.Y. - Senate Democratic Conference announced unanimous support of raising the minimum wage at the Capitol on Wednesday.

A final deal has not been reached yet but supporters of an increase in minimum wage are hopeful.

Dozens marched to the steps of the Capitol demanding, among other things, that the minimum wage be increased to $9 an hour.

Shortly after, the Senate Democratic Conference announcing their unanimous support to do just that as well as indexing future increases to the rate of inflation. The Senators saying the change would help 11% of New York's workforce and increase their purchasing power and therefore boost the economy.

The Democratic Conference says the legislation will pass the Senate and should be brought to the floor for a vote.

Governor Andrew Cuomo spoke shortly after, saying he is optimistic and that he believes it will get done.
