ALBANY, N.Y. -- An armed man was apprehended by a
neighborhood beat officer in Albany following the robbery of a convenience
store
On Friday around 10:45 a.m., Officer Michael Fargione of the
Neighborhood Engagement Unit, was flagged down in front of the R &J Grocery
and Deli, located at 277 Clinton Avenue, regarding a man who was just inside
the store with a knife.
The suspect, who was still in the vicinity, was immediately
stopped by the officer. As the officer approached him, the suspect threatened
the officer with the knife. The suspect, Anwar Smickle, 29, of Albany, was
quickly taken into custody.
Officers learned that Smickle had committed a knife point
robbery at the store.
Smickle was charged with Robbery 1st-Degree, Criminal
Possession of a Weapon 3rd-Degree, Menacing a Police Officer, and
Resisting Arrest.
He was arraigned in the Albany City Criminal Court and remanded
to the Albany County Jail
