Man arrested after fleeing from sheriff, injuring police dog

ROCK CITY FALLS, N.Y. – A 24-year old man is under arrest after fleeing from sheriff officers when they attempted to execute a warrant and injuring a K-9 officer during his resistance.

According to police, Alfred A. Evans, 24 of Emigh Road in Rock City Falls fled when a sheriff's investigator attempted to question him on larceny charges and an outstanding Saratoga County Family Court Warrant.

A 70-minute manhunt began in the Town of Milton including both sheriffs and NYSP Patrol units. A Saratoga County Sheriff's K-9 Gunner and his handler Deputy Denno arrived at the scene and tracked Evans to a utility trailer located at a private residence on Emigh Road.

Evans was found under the trailer and despite resisting arrest, he was taken into custody by deputies. K-9 Gunner suffered lacerations to his head and rear leg as a result of Evan's actions.

Evan's now faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, 4th-Degree
  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, 5th-Degree
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Injuring a Police Animal
  • Warrant for Violation of Article 4 of the Family Court Act

Evans was transported to Saratoga Hospital by Community Ambulance and treated for minor injuries and complaints of chest pain.

He was arraigned at the Milton Town Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bail bond.

Gunner is expected to make a full recovery.
