Suspect at large accused in string of assaults, auto thefts

TROY, N.Y. - A dramatic morning at a Troy parking garage, where a suspect fought a victim for his car keys and wallet before taking off to western Mass. and subsequently stealing a second vehicle.

Police in Troy are investigating the overnight robbery and assult which occurred around 4 a.m. in a parking garage on Fifth Avenue and State Street in Troy.

Police say a 26-year-old Latham man parked his black 2001 Lexus on the first level of the parking garage. He then walked down a stairwell to get to the ground floor when he was approached by the suspect, who jumped on the male's back.

The suspect threated the victim with a knife, which was never shown, and the victim was told to give over his car keys and wallet - both of which were turned over to the suspect.

A brief struggle insued between the suspect and the victim inside the parking garage before the suspect took off in the victim's Lexus. The victim then reported the incident to police. 

Then around 6 a.m. Friday, Massachusetts State Police report the supect's stolen car broke down at the Lee Service Plaza on the eastbound side of the Mass Pike.

The suspect then assaulted a 54-year-old man from Henrietta with a flower pot and stole his Gold 2002 Honda Accord. The victim was transported to Berkshire Medical Center.

The suspect is still at large at this time. He is described as a black male, between 20-30 years old, approximately 5'11", and 250 lbs.
