GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - The Glens Falls Fire Department responded to a multiple-unit building at 3 Shermantown Road early Friday morning for the report of a fire on the first floor.

Fire officials say the blaze started in the lower back, rear portion of the building around 5:30 a.m. Friday, and then spread throughout the back of the building and into the second floor, followed by the attic.

From eight to ten occupants were home at the time of the fire. One resident had minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Fire fighters also rescued one cat from inside the building on the first floor.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Volunteers from the Adirondack-Saratoga Chapter of the American Red Cross provided emergency aid to seven adults after a fire at a multi-unit apartment building on Shermantown in Glens Falls this morning.
