Sheriff's car involved in Claverack accident


CLAVERACK, N.Y. - The Columbia County Sheriff's Office is investigating an accident which involved a patrol vehicle Thursday morning.

The accident occurred at 7:55 a.m. on Route 23 near the intersection of Route 11 in the town of Claverack when the Sheriff's patrol car while, slowed down, activated emergency lights and turned to affect a traffic stop on an eastbound vehicle, collided with the other car which was also traveling eastbound.

The operator of the Sheriff's car, Joseph Bruno, complained of hand and rib pan and was transported to the Columbia Memorial Hospital. The driver of the other vehicle, a 17-year-old female from Philmont, complained of back pain at the scene and was transported by private vehicle to a doctor.

The accident remains under investigation.
