WARRENSBURG, N.Y. - The Warren County Sheriff's Office has arrested a woman Monday they say attempted to burn down an apartment before stealing her boyfriend's IRS refund card and leaving for Florida with her two children.
The Sheriff's Office says 29-year-old Sadie Robinson, of Warrensburg, is accused of placing a can of WD-40 in an oven at the Main Street apartment she and her boyfriend shared, causing the heated WD-40 to fill the apartment with smoke.
Robinson then allegedly left the residence with the boyfriend sleeping in bed, purchased airline tickets to Tampa, Florida for her and their two infant children, and withdrew $2,500 cash from an ATM.
Authorities say the purchases and withdrawals were made using the victim's stolen $7,400 IRS refund card.
The victim was awakened by smoke detectors, and called police. The Warrensburg Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to ventilate the apartment.
Robinson and the two children - a 15-month-old girl and 3-month-old boy - were located at Albany International Airport by Albany County Sheriff's deputies just prior to her boarding her flight to Tampa.
She has been charged with Attempted Arson 2nd-degree and Grand Larceny 3rd-degree, both felonies, and remanded to the Warren County Correctional facility in lieu of $40,000 cash bail or $80,000 bail bond.
Warren County Child Protective Services caseworkers took custody of the two children at the Albany County Airport and returned them to custody of their father on Tuesday.
