SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – A Locks of Love event was held by Mohonasen Central School District Sunday for men, women and children.
Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that creates wigs for children with long-term or permanent medical hair loss. Donated hair must be 10 inches in length, but hair can be colored or permed.
Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure.
"They really think about the facts, that someone else is going to be able to use and to look at themselves differently. For us, it grows back, and for others it won't, so it's really just people giving a piece of themselves; which is fantastic," said Ruth McGuire, Event Coordinator.
The event was held at the Bradt Primary School from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
