Sheriff: Saratoga ‘Gas Bandits’ caught

BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. – The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office investigation into a spree of vandalism and gasoline thefts from vehicles has led to the arrest of three suspects.

During the month of January, several vehicles were damaged after a hole was drilled into their gas tanks and the gas drained. The thefts occurred in five towns and over 20 incidents were reported to police.

Ballston Spa Police identified Zachary W. Currie, 18 and Morgan K. Sharadin, 21, both of Ballston Spa, and Owen R. Gary, 18, listed as homeless, as the culprits.

According to police, the fuel was being used for their vehicles and friends vehicles. The gas was drained from the victims vehicles into a small gas can and transferred into the vehicle they were using to drive around with. Some victim's vehicles were hit twice.

The three suspects are charged with felony Grand Larceny in the 4th-Degree and felony Criminal Mischief in the 2nd-Degree.

The investigation is continuing, and police say more arrests may be made.
