ALBANY, N.Y. - A group of Albany police officers were honored for their extreme acts of heroism and dedication to their job on Wednesday.
Fifty-five different awards went to members of the Albany Police Department; everything from community service awards to medals of valor.
A few examples include one officer honored broke into a burning home to try and save a small child. Another happened back in 2010, when officers helped rescue a group that included three young children from an armed man high on drugs.
Wednesday night's award recipients were chosen by their fellow officers and Police Chief Steven Krokoff says that is what makes them so special.
