WILTON, N.Y. – In less than two weeks the Regal Movie Theaters at the Wilton Mall and the Latham Circle Mall will be closing.
Northern Marketing Manager for Regal Cinema's Jewel Gallagher says that the final day of operation for both cinemas will be Monday, February 18th.
"When evaluating our business at the site at Regal Wilton Mall it became apparent the property was under performing and had seen a decline in business. It was the same for the same for Regal Latham Circle Mall."
Gallagher says the company noticed people from both venues were traveling to "locations with a greater regional attraction" including the Regal Clifton Park Stadium.
"It's the premium experience, an RPX, which is a large format screen," Gallagher said. She says Regal is committed to a new 12-plex RPX theater north of the Wilton Mall at the Regal Cinemas Aviation Mall.
When asked about possible jobs lost, Gallagher said, "We've offered employment opportunities to our staff at other venues."
A new movie theater, operated by Bow-Tie Cinemas, is currently under construction in downtown Saratoga Springs, expected to open in spring of 2013.
Announced Wednesday afternoon, Bow Tie Cinemas says they will open a deluxe first-run cinema in the Wilton Mall space in fall of 2013.
The new movie theater will include 100% stadium seating with custom made leather rocking chairs, a large format auditorium, with a 2,000 square foot screen and 18,000 watts of Dolby digital 7.1 surround sound, giant wall-to-wall screens, 100% digital projection and Dolby digital 7.1 surround sound, classic concessions and gourmet hot food and beverage offering.
