WILTON, N.Y. - An accident on the Northway closed a portion of the road down in the southbound direction between exits 15 and 16 on Saturday evening.
Wilton State Police report that the accident occurred from Exit 16 to the Jones Road Overpass, near Exit 15, all in the southbound direction.
The cause is still being determined, but roughly 30 plus cars are confirmed to have been involved in the accident, according to State Police. Fifteen people were transported to various hospitals.
"A snow squall came out of nowhere," said State Police Lieutenant Greg Thomas. News 10's Meteorologist Andy Gregorio adds that snow squalls dramatically reduce visibility.
"Roads iced right up," said Thomas. "Cars started spinning out, hitting each other."
Police report that there were no fatalities, and no known life threatening injuries. One woman had glass in her eye.
