COHOES, N.Y. -- The for sale sign has been up in front of the Cohoes Armory for nearly a year, but now the historic building could soon have a new owner -- the Ravens Head Brewing Company.
The co-founder and brewer Brennon Cleary tells NEWS10 they've made an offer.
"The armory fulfills a lot of our needs and it's a very, very good fit," Cleary said.
Cohoes Mayor George Primeau agrees. He says he's spoken with Cleary and tells NEWS10 the 22,000 square foot facility, which used to house the New York National Guard, would have the space and provide a welcome boost for the city's economy.
"It would be an attractive area for people to go to sit there and actually go downtown and see what our downtown is all about," said Primeau.
A far different response from the one Ravens Head received in Albany when they expressed interest in moving into the vacant Saint Joseph's Church.
"They really don't want us, and the amount of concessions that we had to make -- St. Joseph's was becoming less and less economically viable," said Cleary.
Cleary says they've been trying to find a location for more than two years, sohe remains cautiously optimistic.
"No contracts are signed at this point. I will feel a lot better when the ink is dry on the papers," said Cleary.
