BENNINGTON, Vt. – A 79-year-old man was killed in a traffic crash Saturday in Bennington, Vt.
At around 11:05 a.m., the Bennington Police Department responded to a serious injury traffic crash on North Bennington Road, immediately west of the Bennington College entrance. It was reported that a car struck a pedestrian.
When they arrived, police found Henry H. Chalifoux, 79, of 1246 North Bennington Rd in North Bennington to be gravely injured on the side of the road after being struck by a vehicle as he crossed the road to get to his mailbox. Police also located the driver of a 2003 Ford Focus, Georgianna Carter, 86, of North Bennington.
Mr. Chalifoux was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
A preliminary investigation revealed Carter was driving westbound on Route 67-A, while Mr. Chalifoux was crossing the street.
A determination of fault hasn't been determined at this time, pending further investigation and the autopsy results. The crash in under investigation and police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact either officer with information.
