SUMMIT, N.Y. – State police have arrested two men after a robbery call led to a foot chase, during which one of the suspects texted a friend asking to be picked up.

State police in Cobleskill responded Friday to a burglary in progress to a residence on Baldwin Road in the Town of Summit, Schoharie County.

As the responding trooper was broadcasting a description of the vehicle, a green older style pick up, two other troopers were involved in a foot pursuit of two subjects fleeing from a traffic stop in the vicinity of the Old Summit Country Store on Route 10.  The troopers had spotted the green pick up which pulled in behind the store, and the two occupants fled into the nearby fields and woods.

One suspect was located on Route 10, and with the assistance of a Department of Environmental Conversation Officer and his K-9, troopers located the second suspect in a wooded area hiding behind a barn.

A search of the suspect's vehicle revealed equipment used to break into buildings.

Wayne E. Swart, 36, of Reed Road, in Hobart, and Devyn T. Clum, 18, of Highway 33, in Bloomville, were arrested for Burglary 2nd-Degree, a felony, Possession of Burglar Tools, and Resisting Arrest.

While fleeing from the troopers, Clum texted a friend, "I am outrunning the police, come get me."  He was apprehended prior to his friend's arrival.

Swart and Clum were arraigned in the Town of Summit, and remanded to the Schoharie County jail in lieu of $50,000 cash and $100,000 bond.
