COBLESKILL, N.Y. – State troopers arrested four individuals in Cobleskill after one nervous group member led to the discovery of counterfeit bills.
On Thursday, Jan. 24, an alert state trooper observed a nervous individual at the cashier's window of the Hess Station on Route 7 in Cobleskill. Further investigation revealed that the female had given the cashier two counterfeit $100 bills.
The trooper and his partner placed the female, her boyfriend, and two other males seated in their vehicle, in custody.
As this investigation was occurring, the Cobleskill Police Department was also investigating the passing of a counterfeit bill at the Rite Aid in the Village of Cobleskill. The description of the female who had been at the Rite Aid matched the description of the woman at the Hess Station.
Interviews of the four subjects resulted in the arrest of Joseph M. Tuosto, 22, of Locust Drive, Selkirk, and April M. Tucker, 19, of Medway-Earlton Road, Earlton for Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the First Degree, a felony.
Tuosto was also arrested for possession of marijuana.
Troopers subsequently learned that Tuosto and Tucker had passed a counterfeit $100 bill at the Stewarts in Stamford, N.Y.
The two were arraigned in Cobleskill Town Court and remanded to the Schoharie County jail. Tucker's bail was set at $10,000 cash, $20,000 bond, and Tuosto's bail was $15,000 cash and $30,000 bond.
An investigation is continuing and additional arrests are pending. Anyone with a similar incident is asked to contact the New York State Police in Princetown at 518-630-1700.
