Fort Edward parents admit neglect in shotgun death of son

Posted:

FORT EDWARD, N.Y. (AP) - A Washington County couple has admitted to child neglect for allowing their son to handle a shotgun that went off and killed him in an apparent accident.

The Post-Star of Glens Falls reports that Louis and Nichole Cota entered the plea Wednesday in Washington County Court.

Their 13-year-old son, Gary Cota, was shot in the head at the family's home in Fort Edward on June 5 while he and a friend handled the shotgun.

A judge in Clinton County, where the couple now lives, will determine what penalty will be imposed on the couple.

Prosecutors and police will meet soon to determine if charges will be filed against the other boy involved.
