GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. - The Gloversville Police Department says they have arrested a 24-year-old homeless man for an array of charges including theft of services, cashing stolen checks and selling stolen firearms to local gun shops.
Police say Timothy Belden was arrested Monday on a warrant for not paying cab fare in the City of Gloversville. Prior to that charge, numerous reports of checks being stolen and cashed throughout Fulton
County was linked to Belden.
The investigation revealed that Belden had not only stolen the checks, but had allegedly written some to
acquaintances and assisted them in cashing them as well.
Lastly, a report of stolen firearms - handguns, rifles and shotguns - had surfaced.
As police investigated, it was learned that Belden and
another had allegedly sold several of the weapons to various gun shops, which
were then sold to customers.
Some firearms
were tracked down and recovered, however at this
time, there are still a number of handguns that have not been recovered. Police say they believe that several of
the handguns were sold to people in Gloversville.
If you have any information regarding these stolen
firearms, please contact Detective Joe Kadle at 773-4502 or Detective Sergeant
Mike Jory at 773-4569.
Belden was charged with Theft of Services, Petit Larceny, and two counts of Grand Larceny
in the Fourth Degree, one for the firearms and one for the
checks. Other charges are pending.
More arrests are
pending in the case of the stolen firearms, as well.
