NORTH LANSINGBURGH, N.Y. -- The North Lansingburgh neighborhood watch and police have issued an alert after vehicles in the area were targeted by vandals.
There have been more than 30 cases of larcenies from cars in the area, and in most cases, things were left in plain sight and the doors of the vehicles left unlocked.
"In almost every case we find that items which are of value to the thief were very visible," said Cpt. John Cooney of Troy PD.
However, there have also been cases of vandalism where cars were spray painted or had mirrors broken.
The message the neighborhood watch and police hope residents take away from this -- lock your doors and take your valuables inside.
"It's very easy to not be seen while you're doing something like that. It's quick, smash a window, grab whatever it is, whether it's a GPS, i-Pod, some form of electronic, grab it and run," said Jim Gordon, Chairman of the North Lansingburgh neighborhood watch.
Gordon also advises residents to leave porch lights on throughout the night to discourage thefts, and if a street light isn't working, report it to National Grid.
