WASHINGTON -- Senator Chuck Schumer opened the 57th Inaugural ceremonies by invoking the innate majesty and sacred meaning of the proceedings.
The duty falls to the New York democrat as chairman of the inauguration committee.
Schumer made an emotional speech, saying that America always rises to the occasion, America prevails and America prospers.
He went on to introduce numerous speakers and dignitaries before having lunch next to the president and first lady.
It's not exactly the red carpet ceremony, but the inauguration had plenty of celebrities on hand, including another familiar face to our area -- the Berkshires' own James Taylor, who performed "America the Beautiful" for the huge crowd.
Taylor not the only big music name there, Kelly Clarkson and Beyoncé sang, too. And Jay-Z, Katy Perry and John Mayer also attended.
