Albany, N.Y. - Many people in an Albany neighborhood near St. Rose college Saturday night were on high alert after hearing a gun shot. Albany Police are still looking for suspects they described as three black males.
"Heard a loud noise we weren't sure what it was," said Mike, a SUNY Albany student who did not want his face shown on camera Sunday.
"I heard a pop sound," said another neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous.
That pop sound neighbors, too afraid to show their faces Sunday, heard according to Albany police was a gun shot fired at around 9 p.m. outside a home at 554 Hudson Avenue. Police say three men attempted to rob a man inside the home at gun point. Police say all three suspects fled the scene. A SUNY Albany student who lives just a few homes down says he and his friends were told by police to stay inside.
"Yeah it is definitely scary. I mean you kind of hear about stuff going on like that in Albany but you never really expect it to be on your block so when it actually happened it was definitely a situation we weren't expecting that worried us a little bit," said Mike.
The incident had St. Rose college on high alert after campus security notified officials students and staff received a text message telling them to stay put .
"We thought you know what were going to tell everybody just to stay where they are. We don't have a lot of information right now but its safer for you to just stay where you are while the Albany police does its search," said Lisa Thomson, Vice President of Communications for St. Rose.
Albany police say the victim in the incident has not been cooperative in their investigation.
"We have learned throughout the investigation that the house was most likely targeted due to marijuana sales coming from the residence," said Steve Smith with Albany Police.
Smith says jewelry and an iPhone was stolen from the home.
