TROY, N.Y. -- Police say that at 8:30 Friday a child ran out into traffic and was struck on the corner of Ingalls and 6th Avenues.

The driver swerved and ended up on the sidewalk also hitting a sign and a concrete garbage can.

The child was taken to Samaritan Hospital to be checked out, and police shut down that area of the road to investigate.
