ALBANY, NY. - There are 20 people from the Capital Region who will be heading to Washington D.C. for the 2013 Presidential Inauguration after winning tickets from NY State Senator Chuck Schumers lottery.
Thousands of people applied, but there were only 250 winners. Jim Belanger is one of them. He says he wasn't expecting to win, but is so glad he did.
"I'm surprised. Usually I'm not much at winning things so I was surprised when I got the email," Belanger said.
"I follow a lot of politicians online and he had the lotto for the inauguration, so I figured, I'll put my name in and see what happens and I lucked out and got a couple tickets," Belanger said.
Belanger says he's flying out on Sunday and meeting up with his niece. He says he's not Obama's "biggest fan," but is excited to be a part of history.
"It's an inauguration presideonf to the untied States regardless of who it is, it's an honor to go," Belanger said.
The ceremony will take place Monday.
