TROY, N.Y. - Troy Mayor Lou Rosamilia announced Thursday that he will appoint Anthony Magnetto to the position of Troy Police Commissioner.

Magnetto has served the City of Troy for 36 years as a second-generation police officer, most recently as Assistant Chief in 2011.

Magnetto will now oversee the day-to-day operations of the City's 127-member Police Department.

"You won't find an individual who cares more deeply for the City of Troy or who is more dedicated to his craft than Tony Magnetto. I have every confidence that he will do a tremendous job as Police Commissioner," Mayor Rosamilia said. "

A lifetime Troy resident and graduate of La Salle Institute and Siena College, Magnetto joined the Police Department as a Patrol Officer in 1976. His time has included positions in nearly every police division, including the Patrol, Detective, Community Services, and Homeland Security bureaus.

The full-time appointed position pays $30,000 per year and is subject to City Council approval.
