ALBANY, N.Y. - The Albany County Sheriff's Office initiated energy conservation improvements at the Albany County Correctional Facility Thursday, expected to save the county $225,000 annually.
The project, a joint venture with NYSERDA, is expected to last from 8-10 months and will total about $1.3 million in costs. The project will end up costing Albany County around $1 million after the rebate from NYSERDA.
The improvements consist of changing all the light fixtures in the building as well as replace valves and sensors on all the heating and cooling equipment.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the project is expected to pay for itself in four years.
