CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. -- Members of the New York Air and Army National Guard are gearing up for a trip to Washington where they will support Monday's inaugural events.
National Guard officials say 40 New York guard soldiers and airmen will join thousands of comrades from across the country to provide support as President Obama kicks off his second term.
NEWS10 caught up with personnel officer helping in the effort. He tells us he's honored to have the opportunity.
"There are 25 states that are actually providing support down to the inauguration, it's an honor that New York is in that group and we're happy to support it," said Lt. Col. Jim Cahill.
Most of the local guardsmen are already in D.C. and will return next Wednesday. The rest of them will leave on Friday.
