NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans Police Department is investigating the beating death of a 26-year-old Colonie High School graduate found dead early Monday morning.
Police were called to her residence in New Orleans around 12:20 a.m. where they found 26-year-old Lauren Tanski killed with blunt force trauma to the body and strangled.
Tanski, a 2004 graduate of Colonie High School, was found inside her apartment in the 2000-block of Urquhart Street, New Orleans Police say.
South Colonie Superintendent Jonathon Buhner says the district is heartbroken by the news.
NEWS10 has learned Tanski's family still lives in Colonie. Sources say she apparently moved to New Orleans about two months ago with three friends. Her parents had some concerns with her move.
"They were really worried about her coming down here because there's a lot of crime" said Raechelle Gonzalez, a friend who made the move with Tanski and lived with her.
Gonzalez said her and Tanski needed a change, and moved down to New Orleans to start a new life. "Lauren really loved it down here," she said.
"I have never felt any kind of pain like this in my entire life." Gonzalez says she will be leaving New Orleans and coming back to Albany in the next few days.
New Orleans Police are looking for a person of interest, 39-year-old Henry "Hank" Dolliole, who may have critical information about Tanski's death. He is not wanted for murder at this time.
Dolliole is believed to be an acquaintance of Tanski.
New Orleans Police are asking anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at 822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP(7867).
